Violinist/Composer Andrew Tholl makes his Vancouver debut with a night of fearless new music representative of the duality found at the core of Atrux. Currently based in Los Angeles pursuing a D.M.A in Performance and Composition at the California Institute of the Arts, Andrew is a dynamic performer interested in the exploration of the passage of time, the physicality of making music, noise, nostalgia, and the merging of diverse musical styles. These interests are evident in his program that will feature works by seminal American composers, Canadian premieres of new work by some of LA’s most promising young composers and new work of his own from this past year at CalArts. Andrew has quickly made a name for himself in LA with his engaging style and commanding performances. This will be a compelling night of contemporary music not to be missed.
Program Highlights:
Neurosis Sketches by Lisa Coons (solo violin) ca. 10′ – Canadian Premiere
Koan by James Tenney (solo violin) ca. 15′
